The Problem

Guident, which supports autonomous vehicle safety with its remote operation and control center technology, faced complex contractual requirements because of a product feature that allows tele-operation of AVs during edge case scenarios, like encountering an unexpected construction crew on the road. Specifically, it lacked the necessary business insurance policies to operate its command centers and facilitate remote vehicle operation when it approached Koop in 2024.

The Solution

Guident worked with Koop to acquire an auto insurance policy for the AVs it remotely operates, as well as General Liability and Inland Marine policies. Building on this approach to contractual requirements management, Guident also added an Excess policy in 2025.

Looking Forward

With the right insurance coverage for both its command centers and its remote operation functionality, Guident can quickly enter new markets that require tele-operating for AVs during edge cases, like the state of Florida.

Why Koop

Koop’s experience underwriting all types of autonomous vehicles makes it an ideal partner to support Guident’s remote AV operations and command centers.
